Saint Patrick's Day Parade at Yokohama
on March 11, 2006
By David G. Anthony

We went to Yokohama on Saint Patrick's Day just gone?
as rare a sight as any I have seen.
O'Sakaguchi led, and as he twirled his big baton
we marched along, a-wearing of the green.

Behind him came the Kawasaki Firemen's Marching Band.
They played "I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen".
It wasnft great for marching but we tried and, hand-to-hand,
we swayed along, a-wearing of the green.

Next came the Fuji Ladies' Irish Dancers: they were good,
each one a black-haired Japanese colleen.
Mac Nakamura piped them on with "Maggie in the Wood"
and they jigged along, a-wearing of the green.

The Tokyo Irish Setters' Club were out that day in force.
The dogs were pretty lively, and were keen
to join the fun. In natty caps, and well rehearsed of course,
they pranced along, a-wearing of the green.

They took me for a native on Saint Patrick's Day just gone
(though Ifm about as Irish as the Queen),
and queued to take my picture, since I was the only one,
as we proudly marched, a-wearing of the green.
